welcome

My name is Omar Bohsali and welcome to my portfolio.

Want to talk right now?

Call me! +1 703 470 7012 or google talk to omar.bohsali@gmail.com. or AIM thepascalproject. I'm never more than 2ft away from my phone and 4ft from a computer.

I will change the world in a positive way. Whether this be through a new venture that make someone's life better, or a new house track that wakes people up in the morning, I'm interested. My interests and hobbies are many and scattered, but I've found a vision that I would like to follow.

Think about it - you're already fortunate enough to be in front of computer screen, which means that you have a steady food supply, power and probably clean running water. We have no excuse to not think about how we can give back and help others who are less fortunate than we are.

Are you an employer? Here is my resumé. And here's my blog. But I hope you spend a few minutes looking through this to get a clearer picture of who I am and what I am and am not capable of!

my work

Work is love. Our lives are too short to be doing something we do not perceive as important.

These are all projects I founded and work on in the past few years.

6starts – simplify your life!

6starts.com >

The only personal website that is scientifically proven to make your life simpler. I use it every day, a few other people do as well.

A funny story -- I wanted to keep the load times to a pure minimum, so I didn't create a logo.

dusoto – reinventing nightlife

dusoto

dusoto is a global nightlife platform that will revolutionaize the way people travel. It's almost out in the wild; I helped lay the foundations for the site with three friends. Check out the front page and get on the list.

HitWarrior - Taking care of click fraud.

2

During my first year of college, I tried to solve click fraud. I haven't succeeded yet, but it was really fun and I learned a lot. site>

CommonClass.com

3

CommonClass.com is probably the coolest class matching service anybody has seen on the internet. more >

These projects are really the essence of what I do. I love building things and when you build projects like this, you're completely in control to build something amazing that people will use. If you're interested in working on any of these projects, please get in touch.

"Real" Work Experience

5

Yeah Systems is my company that I founded in Fall 2006. Since then, it has evolved from a dorm-room idea into a consulting firm that works with clients all over the world.

6

Probably the coolest biomedical startup in the world. Aid Networks is working to build a wireless patient sensor to make hospitals safer for everybody. My specific task was managing systems and writing test code.

Network Solutions Logo

Summer internship in 2006 developing and testing various PHP web-based graphing libraries.

Artis, LLC

Summer internship writing algorithms and working on FRODS - rapelling system that gets soldiers out of helicopters safer and quicker than before.

Some Interests

Spare time is hard to make. But whenever I do have a few free hours, I'll either read a good book, or think about one of these four primary concepts:

  1. Singular Value Decomposition Problems
  2. Data Mining and Latent Semantic Analysis -- machine learning is cool!
  3. Randomness and Chaos
  4. Mixing Music
  5. Girls

2

University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Science, Charlottesville, VA

I'm studying Systems Engineering for my major. Minoring in Engineering business [completed!]

We're worked pretty hard. Our final paper from an introductory systems class is here. It was about balancing security and efficiency in processing commercial cargo at international border crossings.

3
UVa is pretty beautiful, year round.

I'm also in the Rodman Scholars Honors program. It's pretty great++.

McLean High School, McLean, VA

Three friends and I took all of the computer science classes there were at the school, so we went on to found our own Computer Systems class during our senior year.

Did science fair all four years, invited to Intel International Science & Engineering Fair 3 times.

Other Affiliations

Chemistree5k 2007
The Chemistree 5k was a great success.

Terry Moore Scholarship Foundation - Founder

In October 2007, two friends and I founded the Terry Moore Scholarship Foundation (TMSF). Mr. Moore was my AP Chemistry teacher in high school and passed away in the fall of 2007 after a strong fight against a brain tumor. We run a 5k race every year and hold various community events to raise money for the scholarship.

The TMSF scholarship is given to a senior at McLean High School who shows a genuine curiosity for science and continuies Mr. Moore's legacy. For Moore (ha.. ha) information, please contact Raedun Knutsen.

Eta Lambda Chi - Co-founder.

HAX is a semi-secret society for entrepreneurially minded students at the University of Virginia. I'd tell you more about it, but have a look at the site instead!

Le DJ

the dj at work.
at .. work?

On the nights when I'm not thinking about one of the four things above, I'll be behind a set of turntables trying to revive UVa's nightlife.

I spin house, trance, electro, international, and a little bit of hip hop. My setup is 2 Stanton C.314's and a Gemini mixer in the studio [my room], and a Hercules DJ RMX console when I'm on the road.

A lot of people ask how to start DJ'ig -- it's simple. Get a hold of some turntables and start practicing!

Omar the long distance runner

I like to go running. Some of my biggest athletic accomplishments include running a pretty fast mile and registering the domain name track.tk.

Omar the snowboarder

I love snowboarding. I don't have any pictures of me because everytime I go down the mountain, I reach the bottom before the camera can snap the picture [/sarcasm]

Science Fair 2007
Research project.

Omar the researcher

Amplification of image quality through the addition of positive entropy in audibly harmonic patterns. (2006-2007)
Continuation of junior year research project. I was able to sharpen blurry images by throwing randomness at them. It was only a little bit better than what you can get with photoshop or current algorithms, but it's an entirely new concept. It also has a lot of room to improve, so I'm always looking for new minds and new ideas for this project.

Fast Rope Descent System (2005)
Built a rappelling device that assists soldiers when descending from helicopters. It is safer, easier to use, and more cost effective. This project received the Hunton and Williams Patent Award, so we now have a patent for it.

Random number generation & cryptography (2004)
Tested random number generator algorithms in C++, Java, Perl, Javascript, Visual Basic, TI-Basic, found out that Javascript has the most random random number generartor out of these 6. This wasn't anything earth-shatteringly new, but it was a great expeirnece and took us to the international science fair.

The Next Few Years

It's hard to set a goal and follow through with it. I have some interesting plans with my life, so I try to be goal-oriented. May of 2014, I'd like to be:

  1. The founder of an awesome project that makes people's lives better
  2. An internationally known DJ
  3. Financially Independent

Thanks for looking

I really appreciate you taking the time to learn about me. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch! Otherwise have a great day and I really hope to meet you soon. Enjoy!
